Dr. Priscilla Marquis will present information regarding working with a diverse Latinx population using EMDR Therapy. She will discuss information regarding the complexities of working with Latinx clients and some ways to adapt the basic EMDR therapy protocols if necessary for some Latinx clients. Dr. Marquis has worked with Latinx individuals since 1990 using EMDR therapy. She was present cases of some Latinx clients and discuss some of the issues regarding this complex population. EMDR Therapy is a client centered therapy which lends itself to working cross-culturally. Dr. Marquis will discuss ways to work with Latinx clients including ideas for the 8 phases of EMDR Therapy. She will discuss some key factors she has learned from working with this population including healing multigenerational trauma from the Conquista, Personalismo, Oppression and Immigration Concerns. Ideas for developing cultural competence will be discussed.
