Approved for 3 EMDRIA Credits

This presentation will explore how EMDR can help couples process both shared and individual traumatic experiences through guided eye movements and bilateral stimulation. Participants will learn about the impact of trauma on relationships, including symptoms like communication difficulties, emotional distancing, and increased conflict. The presentation will review how trauma affects the brain and discuss the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, explaining how it applies to EMDR with couples. The session will feature clinical demonstrations of EMDR with couples, both simultaneously and with one partner observing. The presentation will also discuss when EMDR might not be suitable for couples, ensuring therapists can make informed decisions. By integrating EMDR into couples therapy, therapists can help partners understand each other better, reduce conflict, and promote healing. This approach not only addresses trauma but also strengthens the emotional bond, fostering a healthier, more resilient relationship.

Presenter: Arilda Surridge, LMFT
