Knowing that substance abuse is progressive, chronic, and eventually fatal if left untreated, practitioners are challenged to assess and treat their clients. This presentation delves into criteria for Substance Use Disorder and shares screening/assessment instruments and risk factors to help measure the severity of use. Details regarding EMDR methods for stabilization & resourcing will be reviewed. Then a discussion re. how to create a list of triggers & formulating the targeting sequence for desensitization using Shapiro’s standard protocol will also be discussed. A brief description of the DeTur Protocol will be shared as it relates to treatment of the Substance Use Disorder.
