Approved for 6 EMDRIA Credits
EMDR is an evidence-based approach to treatment that can be adapted to any age (Shapiro, Tinker). EMDR uses the AIP model utilizing a three-pronged approach, looking at the past, the present, and the future. While EMDR is appropriate for children, it is important to consider the development level of the child. For procedural reliability, it is also important to stay true to Shapiro’s 8 phases of EMDR. In this presentation, participants will explore Shapiro’s 8 phases of the EMDR protocol and learn how to adapt it to the needs of a child using play therapy, while staying true to the protocol. Additionally, participants will be shown demonstrations and will have time to practice, ensuring they feel comfortable using EMDR with their child clients.
Presenter: Christa Phipps, Ph.D.
