Approved for 3 EMDRIA Credits
EMDR Therapy focuses of reprocessing memories stored in maladaptive form in the brain. Unprocessed information related to an individual’s exposure to past adversities may inform current symptoms and complaints clients want to overcome, according to the EMDR theoretical model: Adaptive Information Processing (AIP). However, even careful collaborative interaction with the therapist may not yield a clear pathogenic source from the past in the client’s current life. Widening the scope of the investigation can include family/social history to address potential conflicts/traumas that were not adequately integrated in the past, but were somehow delegated to descendants. Whatever happened to ancestors may eventually impact the way descendants feel, think and make decisions. One strategy to identify the source of strength or vulnerabilities transmitted through generations is through the debits and credits protocol.
