This community is a place for all EMDR clinicians who are invested in raising the level of care for families in the perinatal period. Upwards of 30% of women describe their birth experience as traumatizing. This figure doesn’t include trauma occurring in the effort to become pregnant, during the course of pregnancy, perinatal loss, or complications in the newborn period itself. While these events are common, women often minimize their impact, and family members and physicians may not recognize their repercussions, making them potentially challenging to identify, clinically. This community recognizes that viewing struggles during the perinatal period through a trauma lens and treating it with the AIP model raises the level of care for families and is primary prevention.
