This 75 minute online video presentation is a detailed review of EMD, with both a theory and practice focus. Donald F. deGraffenried, LCSW is a Senior Trauma Recovery EMDR Humanitarian Assistance trainer, and is the presenter in this video. The trainer presents the origin of EMD, the symptom reduction focus with an emphasis on reducing but not clearing symptoms. The trainer differentiates between symptom reduction and comprehensive treatment. The lecture presents the Past/Present/Future focus and is consistent within the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model as developed by Francine Shapiro, Ph.D. The trainer reviews Phases I and II and the necessity of developing an affect management tool to support state shift as a perquisite before moving into Phases III to VI. The core of EMD is presented with it unique approach of bringing the client back to the image and the recording of the SUD’s number at the end of each set. deGraffenried briefly addresses the use of Cognitive Interweaves and focusing on body distress to support desensitization. deGraffenried presents three client case examples that include a case summary and a full review of the EMD script with each case. He also answers the most common questions that clinicians have about EMD.
