Therapists will learn how to provide an extended preparation phase to allow complex trauma clients to utilize EMDR treatment safely and provide interventions and skills training to help clients manage their emotional responses in therapy as well as in life. Therapists will be able to create enough safety and orientation to the present, so that the client can maintain dual attention and not dissociate during the processing phase of EMDR. Therapists will learn the specific methods of maintaining emotional safety while accessing post-traumatic material. Therapists to extend the scope of treatment beyond trauma resolution to deal with the extensive life issues faced by clients with complex trauma disorders.
