This online course reviews general trauma-informed best practices in adoption that can be integrated within an EMDR therapy approach. Primary emphasis is on strategies for transracial/transcultural adoptions that address the needs of the youth and increase caregivers’ capacity to enhance adoptee self-esteem by honoring difference and supporting racial/cultural identity formation. The workshop teaches intervention methods for children and adolescents including playful and child-responsive approaches within the EMDR 8 phases. Intervention strategies are illuminated with case examples that portray case conceptualization, resourcing and reprocessing using EMDR integrated with play therapy tailored to different developmental stages.
