Consultation is a valuable practice in an EMDR therapeutic community working together toward Dr. Francine Shapiro’s vision of reducing the impact of trauma and neglect worldwide. In the opinion of this author, the overall purpose of consultation is to help consultees become the best EMDR therapists possible, to build their confidence that they are competent, and to support them in understanding how their thought processes and rapport with clients lead them to making effective choices in specific situations.
