Integrating EMDR in Emotionally-Focused Couple Therapy

As a trained systemic therapist who views relationships as the most robust predictor of well-being, longevity, and health (Johnson, 2019; Herman, 2015; Perry, 2009), I wondered how individual EMDR therapy, as it was currently practiced, taught, and researched, could be modified for couples to possibly expand its potential for healing. It seems logical to infer that EMDR therapy could be expanded from only the relational system of a single therapist and client alone in the confines of the isolated therapy room. Because humans are social and bonding creatures, the more relational the healing process becomes, the better, right?
