Des Mc Enaney is a Registered Social Worker/Psychotherapist in Ontario, Canada. Previously he was a Registered Social Worker and an Accredited Mediator (Family and Workplace/Organizational) in Ireland. In addition, he is a Chartered Psychologist in Ireland, a clinical supervisor, and an Accredited Psychotherapist in Ireland and the United Kingdom. He has more than 20 years of experience as a social worker in child and family services and with the military. He maintained a private practice as a mediator for many years and ran a certified mediator training program. In tandem with this, he maintained a private counseling and psychotherapy practice, working with individuals, couples, children, and adolescents. Within a short space of time, his psychotherapy practice became one that principally offered EMDR therapy to adults, children, and adolescents.

Regarding academic work, Des has worked at several universities in Ireland, the U.K., and Canada. He has taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels across social care, social work, counseling and psychotherapy, mediation, and psychology. He has also provided clinical supervision and worked as a field advisor.

He became an EMDR therapist in 2008 and an EMDR Consultant in 2017. He has delivered thousands of hours of EMDR therapy to children, adolescents, and adults, and guided hundreds of therapists toward successful EMDR practice. From 2018–2020, he co-organized ongoing Child & Adolescent EMDR education for EMDR UK and Ireland. He served on the EMDR Ireland Board in 2020. From 2022 to early 2025, he was an EMDR Canada Board Member. He was elected to serve on the EMDRIA Board in January 2025.
