Dr. Mandy Mount, PhD

About Me
I am a licensed Psychologist with more than 20 years of experience supporting adolescents and adults affected by trauma, interpersonal violence, grief, identity-related stress, and major life transitions. My approach is collaborative, affirming, and grounded in an understanding of how trauma affects the brain, body, relationships, and sense of safety.
I integrate EMDR therapy with relational, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approaches. I place particular emphasis on preparation, stabilization, and helping clients develop resources that support emotional regulation before and throughout trauma processing. My work is LGBTQIA+ affirming and attentive to the ways culture, identity, systems, and lived experience shape healing.
In addition to clinical practice, I provide professional training and consultation on trauma, sexual violence, survivor-centered response, and the neurobiology of trauma.
Education & Experience
I earned my PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park, and am licensed as a psychologist in California, Colorado, and Florida.
My professional experience includes more than two decades of clinical, leadership, training, and consultation work related to trauma and interpersonal violence. For 16 years, I served as the founding director of the CARE Center at the University of California, Irvine, where I developed and led comprehensive prevention, advocacy, crisis response, and coordinated community-response initiatives.
My clinical areas of focus include posttraumatic stress, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, childhood trauma, grief and loss, LGBTQIA+ concerns, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. I work with adolescents, adults, and couples and incorporate EMDR therapy when it is clinically appropriate.
I have also trained mental health professionals, law enforcement personnel, higher education professionals, advocates, and multidisciplinary teams on trauma-informed care, the neurobiology of trauma, survivor-centered systems, and effective responses to interpersonal violence. My experience includes clinical supervision, program development, consultation, grant-funded initiatives, and expert testimony.
