Course Description
Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and depression often co-occur, particularly in the workplace. Most work environments rely heavily on consistent task completion and performance evaluation—demands that can be especially challenging for individuals with ADHD. Difficulties with task management, inattention, disorganization, and impulsivity frequently lead to repeated setbacks. Over time, these experiences are internalized, forming negative self-beliefs that erode confidence and contribute to depressive symptoms such as hopelessness and low energy. In professional settings, this cycle makes task initiation, sustained focus, and follow-through increasingly difficult, further reinforcing a diminished sense of self-worth.
This presentation examines how Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) can interrupt this cycle by targeting the maladaptive beliefs and emotional patterns that sustain it. By reprocessing deeply rooted cognitive and emotional networks, EMDR promotes healthier self-perceptions, greater resilience, and improved engagement with workplace tasks. Additionally, we will review practical ADHD strategies to enhance performance and foster greater self-acceptance.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will be able to identify the reinforcing cycle between ADHD symptoms and depression in workplace settings, including how task-related setbacks contribute to negative self-beliefs and diminished motivation.
- Participants will be able to describe how EMDR targets maladaptive cognitions and emotional patterns associated with ADHD-related performance difficulties and contributes to improved self-perception and resilience.
- Participants will be able to apply practical ADHD-focused strategies to enhance workplace functioning and promote self-acceptance.
