Dr. Mary Kalpakoff, PsyD

About Me

Hello! My name is Dr. Mary Kalpakoff and I am a Licensed Psychologist in Arizona and Florida. I want to thank you for considering working with me. I know it can take great courage to seek help, brave telling your story, and to believe in a more abundant life. The truth is, personal growth can be a steep mountain to climb! And yet, usually the best things in life are. Thankfully, however, we do not have to do it alone and we are not meant to. Together we can make your healing journey and view at the top of the mountain a powerful story to tell! I have the privilege and honor to walk alongside individuals on their path of growth. I believe mental health treatment can be a space of not only symptom reduction, but also of personal transformation. I offer individual therapy to adults (18+). Areas of focus in my clinical practice include: PTSD/trauma, relationship issues with self and others (e.g., self-esteem, self-compassion, communication, assertiveness, boundaries, co-dependency, healing from infidelity/betrayal), singleness, dating, marriage, and spiritual issues. Other areas I treat: anxiety, depression, grief, adjustment issues, life transitions (e.g., break-ups, divorce, retirement, exploring purpose), and stress. If appropriate for the patient, I often utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in my practice. I find it to be an incredibly powerful and transformational therapy. It is inspiring to witness such profound healing in clients. Additionally, it is an honor and joy to offer Christian Counseling and/or faith integration, if my patient wants and consents to this. However, please note, if you hold a different worldview or belief system, you are warmly welcomed! I do not impose my beliefs. I strive to create a safe, welcoming, trusting, respectful, and empowering environment for all. My approach is warm, collaborative, and strength-based to help you make concrete changes and achieve your goals. I believe a good fit between therapist and patient is an integral component to healing. If you think I may be a good fit, I welcome you to reach out! I am happy to further discuss and answer any questions. Thank you.

Education & Experience

I have experience working in large health care systems (e.g., including a PTSD Residential Rehabilitation Program), community mental health, and private practice. Regarding educational background, I earned my Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) and Master of Arts in Psychology (M.A.) from The Wright Institute (Berkeley, CA). I earned my Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from the University of Miami (Coral Gables, FL), with a major in Psychology and Minor in Dance. I also completed coursework at the University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia). I completed my APA-accredited predoctoral internship at the West Palm Beach Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center and APA-accredited postdoctoral residency in the PTSD Division at The Miami VA Healthcare System. I am thankful to have received well-rounded generalist training (e.g., in a primary care setting) as well as specialty training in PTSD, Substance Use Disorders, and Serious Mental Illness.
