About Me

John Rivera Jr., M.S., LMHC, is a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor and EMDRIA Certified Therapist specializing in EMDR therapy for veterans, first responders, their families, and adults experiencing trauma, anxiety, relationship challenges, and high-pressure life experiences.

Before becoming a therapist, John served 23 years as a U.S. Marine infantryman and combat veteran. His professional and personal experiences provide a grounded understanding of trauma, moral injury, chronic stress, grief, and the challenges faced by those who are expected to continue performing despite what they carry.

John provides EMDR therapy, individual therapy, and couples therapy. His integrative approach combines EMDR with Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Level 3), Emotionally Focused Therapy-informed care, CBT, attachment-focused approaches, and other evidence-informed methods.

Through Stoic in the Valley Counseling & Consulting, John provides private-pay therapy through secure telehealth throughout Florida and in-person sessions at his Wesley Chapel office. His approach is direct, collaborative, and tailored to each client's goals.
