The Silence is Loud using EMDR for the Treatment of Underdiscussed Postpartum Rage

“My postpartum rage was such a shock to me. I hardly recognized myself at times,” and “I had that so bad I broke a door by punching it because I couldn’t find ways to help myself calm down.” Research endorses the safety of EMDR during pregnancy and the postpartum period, making this modality an effective fit to address the shame and feelings of disappointment and resentment that individuals with postpartum rage commonly identify. This article features a vignette of fictional client named Julia, a 32-year-old mother who is four weeks postpartum.
