About Me
Hi! I’m Sunny (he/him), and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. As a South Asian male, I often get asked if I work in tech — it’s an easy assumption in the Seattle area. I smile and explain that I’m actually a therapist. It’s a small example of what it feels like to be seen through a stereotype, and part of why I care about helping people be understood for who they truly are. As the son of Indian immigrants, I grew up straddling two cultures — respecting family traditions while figuring out who I wanted to be. That tension taught me about belonging, pressure, and identity, and it’s why I care about creating a space where you can bring your whole self without judgment.
Education & Experience
Training-wise, I got my B.S. from the University of South Dakota where I majored in Psychology and minored in Chemistry. As an unhappy pre-med student, I was inadvertently giving free relationship advice to my friends in the school cafeteria. Realizing how often we miscommunicate with others, I went on to get my M.A. in Communication Studies. With a deep interest in couples work, I finally graduated Kansas State University with my M.S. in Science in Family Studies and Human Services. I have advanced training in EMDR, a trauma therapy that helps people process difficult experiences safely. I also use narrative therapy to support people navigating life’s transitions and finding clarity during times of change.
