About Me
I am a transplant from the East Coast as of 2010 and I have been soaking in all of the beauty that our PNW home has to offer. As life presented its challenges over the years, I took time to engage in my own self-growth. Through that process I have found myself gravitating towards the quieter, simpler things such as being amongst the trees or walking along the coast. I enjoy reading and creating, whether that be on tiny canvases with pen and paint, or cooking up comfort in our cozy little kitchen. It is very important for me to practice what I encourage my clients to do and to know how to regulate my own nervous system in order to be the best version of myself that shows up in office or on screen for sessions.
Education & Experience
I attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where I completed a Master of Science in Counseling and Counselor Education in 2002. From there, I advanced my counseling degree and obtained a PhD at Barry University in South Florida in 2008. Upon completing my degrees, I worked in various settings including inpatient hospitals, and partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs for adults with substance use disorders and SPMI populations. I taught a cultural diversity course to master's level counseling students and eventually entered into leadership roles within the mental health field. I served as a director of several outpatient mental health and substance related programs. Currently I am in private practice and working towards certification in EMDR. I have taken specific interest in Polyvagal-Informed EMDR and am finding it to be so informative when working with clients who seem to feel "stuck" on logic.
Professional & Volunteer Affiliations
I have been a member of the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) since 2002, thereby demonstrating my commitment to the counseling profession. In addition, I have maintained membership with the Oregon branch of the American Counseling Association, Oregon Counseling Association (ORCA) since 2018, whose mission is to empower other counselors and therapists in doing this healing work.
