Foundations of EMDR Consultation

This course introduces the foundational principles and roles that guide effective EMDR consultation across developmental stages of practice. Providing the following to support reflective, ethical and developmentally responsive consultation:

• About EMDR consultation – key definitions and theories, along with its instructional focus in a developmental approach to consultation
• The role of a consultant in different types of consultation (e.g., foundational (EMDR basic training), certification, consultant in training consultation, EMDR case consultation)
• Supporting the growth and development of consultees and consultants

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, a consultant will:

1. Describe the purpose, scope and core roles of an EMDR consultant, including the consultant responsibilities as an educator, motivator and evaluator across stages of professional development.
2. Compare and contrast four types of EMDR consultation: Foundational Consultation (EMDR Basic Training), Certification Consultation, Consultant in Training Consultation and EMDR Case Consultation.
3. Identify at least three (3) practical tools and resources for use in EMDR consultation.
4. Apply self-assessment questions to evaluate and revise consultation practices in support of ongoing professional competence.

Target Audience & Instructional Level

• An intermediate course for EMDRIA Approved Consultants in Training™ (CITs) under the updated EMDRIA Approved Consultant™ Standards.

CE Credits

• 1.5 EMDRIA credits offered upon successful completion of all course requirements, including final assessment (with passing score of 80%).  
• Final assessment & course evaluation is outside of hours offered for completion of program.

• This course is part of the initial EMDRIA Approved Consultant™ application, and all CIT applicants (applying under the updated standards) will be required to complete the course at no additional cost.
• We encourage our current consultants to complete the course to stay aligned with the updated standards and expectations.
• Current consultants will have complimentary access to the courses through December 31, 2026. After this date, the courses will remain available for purchase.
