Course Description
Clients begin treatment to feel better. Clinicians want to treat everything that has ever occurred in a client’s life. Hence the dilemma that many clinicians find themselves in: do we do symptom reduction or comprehensive treatment? There are many factors that help clinicians make this decision, such as the length of time a client will be in treatment. client fragility or clients’ goals. This workshop will help the EMDR clinician more clearly understand these treatment plan options and will help them work with their client to make the best decision for each individual client. The presenters will include recommendations for working with different ages and cultures.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will be able to identify clinical criteria used to determine when comprehensive treatment versus symptom‑focused treatment is most appropriate.
- Participants will be able to describe how clinical presentation and treatment goals inform selection among EMDR protocols, including the standard protocol, EMD, evidence‑based adaptations, early intervention protocols, and the Reverse Protocol (Adler‑Tapia).
- Participants will be able to identify cultural, developmental, and contextual factors that inform treatment planning decisions between symptom reduction and comprehensive treatment.
