Course Description

Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy and EMDR: How Psychedelics Can Enhance and Amplify the Effectiveness of EMDR. Studies are showing that psychedelic assisted therapy potentiates our ability as trained psychotherapists to heal and assimilate trauma. Ketamine is currently the only legal psychedelic in the USA. Sunny Strasburg, LMFT, has created specific protocols incorporating EMDR with Ketamine Assisted Therapy. Using ketamine at a midrange and sub- anesthetic dose to compliment the eight phases of the EMDR protocol can amplify the effectiveness of trauma treatment. While therapists must be specifically trained in psychedelic assisted therapy as well as EMDR, this presentation will provide an overview of this novel approach and give attendees an introduction to this exciting and synergistic approach to trauma therapy.

Learning Objectives

1. Participants will be able to describe Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (Specific training is required).
2. Participants will be able to identify how Eight Phases of EMDR fit into a typical KAP Protocol.
3. Participants will be able to recognized how to weave Phases 4-8 into integration sessions at the conclusion of each KAP dosing session.

Sunny Strasburg, LMFT

Licensed in Utah and Maryland, Sunny is EMDR Certified and a graduate of the Certification for Psychedelic Assisted Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies. Sunny specializes in attachment trauma, using an eclectic approach with the Gottman Couples Method, Jungian psychology, and Ego State techniques. She offers Ketamine Assisted Therapy, individual sessions, and group ketamine retreats. Sunny co-founded the nonprofit, Indra’s Net Coalition with Dr. Phil Wolfson. She is trained by MAPS in MDMA, Compass Pathways in psilocybin psychotherapy and a trainer for the Ketamine Research Foundation. Sunny hosts retreats in Utah, Maryland, California, Wyoming and Costa Rica.
