Ms. Alva Huang, Master in Counselling
(She / Her)
About Me
Since obtaining my Master in Counselling at Monash University in 2011, I have been involved in counselling at schools, churches and community organisations. With a passion for restoring dignity and safety for vulnerable communities, I have volunteered in various capacities to support survivors of human trafficking and people facing homelessness. I believe that everyone deserves a safe, non-judgmental space to heal, to come just as you are. In my personal time, I enjoy digging my toes in the sand on the beach with my husband and son, or curled up at home with a hot chocolate watching drama series.
Education & Experience
My main framework of choice is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Choice-Theory Reality Therapy (CTRT), supported by trauma-informed modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). Other modalities I am trained in include Expressive Art Therapy and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Professional & Volunteer Affiliations
I am professionally registered with Australian Counselling Association (ACA), Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), Association of Psychotherapy and Counsellors Singapore (APACS) and EMDR International Association (EMDRIA).
