Dr. Amanda Kern, DSW, LICSW, ICAADC, CDP, CST
(she/her)
Preferred Name: Amanda
About Me
I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience as a therapist and more than 13 years in private practice. I am an EMDRIA Consultant in Training (CIT) and work with both individuals seeking EMDR therapy and clinicians looking for consultation and support. My work focuses on trauma and addiction, including experience working with first responders, clinicians who support them, and others impacted by chronic stress and trauma.
I am a Certified Sex Therapist, licensed in addictions, and have advanced training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). My approach is warm, grounded, and non-judgmental, with an emphasis on creating a safe and supportive space for healing and growth. Whether I am working with clients or consulting with other clinicians, I value collaboration, thoughtful listening, and helping people feel supported in their process.
Education & Experience
I hold a Doctor of Social Work from the University of Kentucky, a Master of Social Work from Eastern Washington University, and a Bachelor of Social Work from Lewis-Clark State College. I’m licensed as an independent clinical social worker, certified in sex therapy, and trained in addiction and DBT. My background in trauma, addiction, and relational work informs both how I support clients and how I consult with clinicians.
Professional & Volunteer Affiliations
I am a member of EMDRIA, AASECT, and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). I have volunteered with the Mayan Family Foundation in Guatemala and CEPIA in Costa Rica. When traveling, my husband and I intentionally seek opportunities to volunteer or give back in ways that are ethical, respectful, and guided by the needs of local communities.
