Dr. Christen Ann Kishel, Christen Kishel, PhD

(She/Her)
Preferred Name: Christen

About Me

I am a clinical psychologist who specializes in treating emergency responders. In addition to being trained in EMDR and engaging in ongoing group EMDR consultation since my basic training in 2017, I am certified in Critical Incident Stress Management. I have trained many peer supports in basic and advanced CISM over the last 13 years, and provide critical incident services to include CISM and recent event EMDR when requested by agencies or individuals. I especially enjoy providing resilience training.

Education & Experience

I started my career as a direct service provider for female adolescent felons in the projects of Cleveland who were finishing their sentences at a treatment center. One unit included teens who were pregnant or had a young child. This motivated me to attend graduate school to understand and treat trauma in both children and adults. I obtained my PhD from the University of Toledo in 2002. My career has taken several turns over the years, and I have landed solidly in the realm of education about and treatment of acute and accumulated trauma in emergency responders. This has been a specialty since 2013 and in 2019 I moved to working exclusively with emergency responders in my solo private practice.

Professional & Volunteer Affiliations

Professional memberships include the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, International Association of Chiefs of Police, and EMDRIA. I am not affiliated with any volunteer organizations, but provide a significant amount of pro bono critical incident and crisis intervention.
