About Me

Christine Gjestland has been part of providing mental health services for the past 28 years in the Community Mental Health system with the past 12 years providing services through a Community based Program as a Mental Health Therapist, to infants, toddlers, adolescents, individuals, and families with a variety of therapeutic needs. (Trauma, anxiety, depression, stress, anger, parenting, behavioral concerns, mood disorders, attachment, ADD/ADHD, PTSD, etc...) During the last five years she also provided Supervision in the agency to other therapist as their supervisor, Coordinator of programs and as ACS (Approved Clinical Supervisors) for Limited License Professional Counselors in the state of Michigan. In the last year of her service in the nonprofit agency she applied and became an active member of the DEI Counsel. At the end of 2021, Christine moved to providing Therapy in a Clinic setting in a more regular bases and left in the first half of 2022 her other therapy/ Coordinator position behind. She provides therapy services to a wide range of ages with her youngest served being newborn to the eldest was in their seventy’s. Christine continues to serve clients in the Clinic dealing with anxiety, depression, Trauma, PTSD, ADD/ADHD, Infant mental health, attachment, mood disorders and other mental health concerns. In the past ten plus years she has and continues to work on development of her therapeutic skills by learning techniques such as DBT, CBT, Solution focus, Motivational Interviewing, infant mental health, attachment, play therapy techniques, parenting techniques, and reflective Supervision and other evidenced-based psychotherapy techniques.

Education & Experience

Christine has a Bachelor Social Work and master’s Arts in Counseling, both educational programs achieved through Spring Arbor University. She carries (LPC) Licensed Professional Counselor and a (LBSW) Licensed Bachelor Social Work through the State of Michigan.

Professional & Volunteer Affiliations

Christine is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS). Christine is an active Board Member of the Michigan Home Base Family Service Association (MHBFSA) in the role of their secretary and a member of MI-AIMH. Christine is a Trauma Focus Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (TF-CBT) from there she studied and became Nationally Certified Trauma Trained Therapist. Christine also has Tier Three training through “Star Behavioral Health Provider” to provided services with Veterans. In 2021 she completed the exam and endorsement process resulting her in earning the Endorsement by MI-AIMH as an Infant Mental Health Specialist, and she is EMDR trained and is working towards her EMDR Certification.
