Ms. Christine Merjanian, MA, CCC
About Me
Originally from Montreal, I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor and qualified EMDR Therapist with 18 years’ experience in the UN and other international organizations in the areas of staff counselling and human resources management. Having spent over a decade in the humanitarian sector in the Middle East supporting international and local staff across the region, as well as in Geneva, I have gained extensive exposure to the wellbeing issues of humanitarian workers and their families and have counselled staff and dependents from over 50 nationalities.
Education & Experience
I work with adults from all backgrounds on a wide range of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, and trauma-related symptoms. Given my background, I have a special interest in the specific challenges faced by humanitarian personnel, including compassion fatigue, vicarious traumatization/secondary traumatic stress, PTSD, coping under duress, adjustment issues in deployment/re-entry, chronic stress in relief settings, and burnout. I am certified in therapeutic approaches for treating trauma, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and The Rewind Technique.
