About Me
Hi, I'm Dr. Clarissa Mulligan Attara (she/her), Ph.D., LPC, LMHC, LCADC, ACS, NCC, EMDR-T and I am licensed and providing virtual sessions in NY and NJ. I am passionate about helping others achieve a sense of inner calm. I utilize an attachment lens to understand where you were, where you are, and where you want to be. I focus on self compassion, skill development, promoting healing and personal growth. In counseling you should feel validated and supported. I am passionate about helping those who have experienced attachment trauma, co-occurring issues, and addiction. Areas of specialization include: Trauma/PTSD; IPV/DV survivors; addiction; and LGBTQ affirming+ counseling for adults and adolescents. I believe in the efficacy of EMDR and utilizing cognitive interweaves to integrate other useful interventions in sessions. While CBT can be helpful, we can feel stuck. EMDR can be a helpful addition to typical talk therapy. Let today be the day your prioritize yourself and your mental health. Adolescents and parents typically want the same things: success, happiness, validation, and support. It can be challenging to get on the same page. Do you butt heads despite your best, most sincere efforts? I can provide family sessions to aid in cohesion of the family system.
Education & Experience
With nearly a decade of experience in the counseling field I have experience in every level of care: detox, residential/inpatient, PHP, IOP, OP. I have worked as the director for adult and adolescent programs. I teach about evidence-based interventions including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, mindfulness practices, and person-centered therapy approaches. I believe that each client is unique and collaborates with you to develop an individualized treatment plan. I approach counseling with clients from a multicultural counseling lens, recognizing the very real differences that inform values, choices, and behaviors.
