About Me
I am a Queer, Black Therapist specializing in supporting Black Women and Girls and my fellow LGBTQIA+ folx recover from trauma so that they can live fulfilling and joyful lives. I am passionate about social justice and believe that everyone is worthy of a beautiful life. I am a musician and a writer, and in my spare time I love taking long walks, enjoying nature, watching and playing tennis, eating dark chocolate, practicing yoga and meditation, making art with friends and family, and playing with my grandson.
Education & Experience
I have a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Santa Monica. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 2002. Prior to that, I worked as a Registered Music Therapist, having obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Music with a Certificate in Music Therapy in 1986. I have been working in field of mental health and wellness for over 35 years. I have provided care for children, adolescents, young adults, adults, and elders. I have facilitated individual, couples, family, and group therapy in school-based services, residential settings, outpatient mental health, in-patient psychiatric care, partial hospitalization, community-based services, and/or private practice. I have extensive training in Expressive Arts therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Focused CBT, and Narrative therapy and am now in the process of becoming certified as an EMDR therapist. I have also managed and developed programs, facilitated clinical supervision for pre-Master's and Master's level clinicians, and provided trainings on a variety of topics. I am also certified as an Emotional Emancipation Circle (TM) facilitator.
