Dr. Elizabeth Gene Merrill, Psy.D., ABPP
(She, her, hers)
Preferred Name: Elizabeth
About Me
My approach is relational. I believe the therapy session is reflective of what happens in the outside world. In this way, it is a powerful learning tool. I am in training to become fully certified in EMDR through EMDRIA. This process takes years and includes learning from top consultants in the field to ensure I am receiving up to date approaches in this treatment modality.
Education & Experience
I obtained my doctorate from the Wright Institute in Berkeley, California in 2007 and moved to New York City where I was employed within the city hospital system for ten years as a supervising psychologist and as the Assistant Director of Child and Adolescent Education and Training at Mt. Sinai - St. Luke’s Child and Family Institute. I was also an assistant professor of psychology at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons and a clinical instructor at Montefiore Medical Center. Since 2015, I have been working with veterans at the Togus VA in Maine. I have also been maintaining a private practice for over twenty years.
Professional & Volunteer Affiliations
EMDRIA, APA, and group psychotherapy (I have been certified in group psychotherapy in the past but have recently become more interested in couples therapy and the Gottman Approach). I aim to focus my energy on couples, Gottman and incorporating EMDR into couples work as well.
