About Me
As a native to the Birmingham area, I began my clinical work with children and families for a local adoption agency. I provided crisis counseling and pre/post adoption support for families struggling with a variety of issues, including attachment difficulties. Years later I became the family therapist with the UAB Adoption Clinic at Children's of Alabama (now known as The Adoption and Foster Care Clinic) working with an interdisciplinary team of doctors and OTs until beginning my private practice. My therapeutic practice continued to grow in focus working with adults having histories of trauma experiences, relational disruptions, and/or have adoption/foster/multiple transitions in care within their stories. In the therapy process, I operate from an attachment and client-centered perspective. I specialize working with individuals having attachment disruptions, complex developmental trauma, and trauma-related issues as well as anxiety and depression. I often utilize parts work and EMDR within my practice when appropriate. I believe that each client is unique and has specialized needs that are important to understand. A great deal of care is placed on the therapeutic relationship as I believe it is one of the most important elements in therapy. I work to provide a safe and accepting environment so clients have the space and opportunity needed for healing and growth.
Education & Experience
I graduated with my undergraduate degree in Counseling and Biblical Studies from Southeastern Bible College. I later obtained my Masters in Social Work from the University of Alabama. I have a license as an independent clinical social worker. I am a Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) Practitioner. I am trained in EMDR, currently completing steps for certification. I have participated in level 1 and 2 Theraplay training and earned my Foundational Certification in Theraplay. I also have training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), utilizing these principles in my practice.
