About Me
Dr. Hector R. Matascastillo, Ph.D., MSW, LICSW, was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, and was raised in Chicago, Illinois. When he was seventeen, he joined the Army and served in multiple countries, participating in various operations for over eighteen years. After his last deployment to Iraq in 2007 as a First Sergeant of an infantry company, Hector left the military and completed the Master of Social Work degree program at Augsburg University in 2010 and his PhD in clinical and forensic psychology from Walden University in 2026. He is formally trained in EMDR, DBT, and Healing of Memories. As a multilingual/multicultural therapist, Hector works with the first responder, Latino, Veteran, and seriously mentally ill populations. He also works within domestic abuse programming from the micro to the macro level. He is currently in practice, consulting with law enforcement and local government entities, while serving on multiple community endeavors and Boards of Directors. Hector is the mental health consultant and crisis negotiator for the Minneapolis Police Department SWAT Crisis Negotiation Team. He completed the FBI Citizens’ Academy and is a member of the FBI Citizens’ Academy of Minneapolis Alumni Association. He is the owner and president of ASC Psychological Services. He currently resides in Woodbury, MN, with his wife, Cheryl.
