Jacob Gotwals, LPC, LPCC
(he, him, his)
I help individuals find and create great relationships. I only work with people one-on-one because I’m dedicated to giving you personal, in-depth support throughout your relationship journey. That could include deciding whether to stay in a challenging relationship, navigating infidelity, recovering from heartbreak after a relationship ends, learning to enjoy being single, and/or navigating dating, commitment, and the evolution of new relationships (whether you’re seeking monogamy, consensual non-monogamy, or polyamory). I can provide insight into current relationship challenges and help you develop stronger skills through training in self-awareness, empathy, communication, collaboration, and boundaries. Do you anxiously seek love, avoid it with disdain, or swing between seeking it and pulling away in fear? You may have an insecure attachment style. Have you been through distressing life experiences (like abuse, neglect, or assault)? You may have upsetting memories and feel agitated, irritable, or wary; these trauma symptoms can interfere with relationships. I can use EMDR and guided imagery (effective therapies for trauma and attachment issues) to activate your mind’s natural ability to heal, freeing you of trauma symptoms and helping you develop a more secure attachment style. As you heal and grow, you'll gain self-confidence, self-esteem, and peace of mind and become better prepared for healthy relationships. I serve all locations in Florida, Colorado, and New Mexico (by video only) from my home city of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Education & Experience
I worked at Presbyterian Medical Services in Santa Fe from 2016-2021, where I gained experience helping clients heal from psychological trauma and overcome attachment issues. I completed a master's in counseling in 2015 from Southwestern College in Santa Fe, and I also have a human sexuality certificate from Southwestern College.
