About Me

My name is Jose Luis Valenzuela. I reside in El Paso, Texas. I have a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychology and Biological Sciences from the University of Texas at El Paso, completed in 2006. I later completed a Master’s Degree of Arts (MA) in Community and Mental Health Counseling in 2009 at Webster University of St. Louis Missouri in Ft. Bliss, Texas. I also completed some doctoral studies in Psychology (PsyD) at Capella University, University of the Rockies, and Walden University between 2012 to 2015. I also completed a second Master’s Degree of Science (MS) in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy from the Escuela Superior de Psicología en Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, México, which is an incorporated to Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez, in 2016. I completed my Doctorate in Psychology (PhD) with an emphasis in Integrative and Eclectic Psychotherapy from the World Association of Eclectic Hypnotherapists Professional College from Brownsville, Texas-Campus Ciudad Juárez, México, incorporated and accredited by Universidad Autónoma de Queretaro, México. I am currently completing my prerequisites for the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing-Health Sciences Center of El Paso Texas Tech University at El Paso Community College, also completing an Associates of Science in Biology this spring semester of 2022.

Education & Experience

I have over ten years of experience working in the El Paso & Ciudad Juarez community as a polylingual (Spanish/English/Portuguese/Italian) clinical therapist at psychiatric hospitals, outpatient clinics, in the government sector through the Department of Defense in Ft. Bliss Texas as Military and Family Life Counselor, and in several non-profit agencies serving chronic mental health & intellectual disabilities’ cases. I also taught Psychological Pedagogy classes in Juarez, Mexico for six years. I am a currently an Adjunct Associate Professor at Webster University in Ft. Bliss, Texas for the Master’s Degree of Arts & Sciences in Counseling, and teach the following courses: Psychopathology, Psychopharmacology, Counseling Techniques, Counseling Research and Program Evaluation, Counseling of Children, Professional Counseling Development, and Internship. I also participate as co-faculty member for the Doctorate in Psychology with WAEH and teaching Clinical Investigation and Methodology, and Integrative Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy interventions in Mexico. My areas of expertise include an eclectic and multimodel approach to psychotherapy, but particularly a concentration in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Clinical Hypnosis, EFT, NLP, Gestalt, Family Systems, Play Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy approaches. I have a very valuable clinical/practicum supervision contract with the Health Sciences and Nursing Department from New Mexico State University (NMSU) by being a preceptor to the Doctoral Nurse Practitioner’s Program since 2016. I am also an active CEU provider for the Texas LPC Board. I have my private practice opened since 2014 and provide various and dynamic psychotherapy services; fully credentialed with Texas Medicaid insurances, and paneled provider with several commercial insurances. I currently have 13 LPC-Associates that work under my supervisory license and provide weekly supervision as a Board Approved Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor. I am presently a member and trainer for Professional Counselors of El Paso; member and trainer of the Trauma & Resiliency at the Borderland Organization; and member and trainer of the Trans-Pecos Counseling Association-a chapter of the Texas Counseling Association. My most recent full-time employment was at West Texas Detention Facility in Sierra Blanca, Texas; providing Individual and Group Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy to Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainees and to United States Federal Marshal detainees. I contracted for 1-year with Associated Behavioral and Trauma Specialties (ABTS) in 2021, providing specialized psychotherapy services as a private practice setting. I am current co-owner/partner and the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for New U Psychotherapy Center since October of 2021 to this current 2022.
