About Me

I began my career as a practicing attorney representing women in abusive relationships in order of protection and divorce proceedings. As a therapist, I use my legal and therapeutic background to provide individual counseling prior to, during, and after divorce. Divorce is a traumatic life event that can have a ripple effect on nearly every aspect of one's life. I offer clients both concrete help to better understand the legal system and what they can expect from the process, while also working to gain deeper insight into what happened in the relationship and starting to heal from the experience. In addition to divorce counseling, my areas of specialization include relationship and family issues, self-esteem, domestic abuse, childhood abuse, sexual abuse/assault, trauma and PTSD. I use an eclectic approach, tailoring treatment to best meet each individual client's goals. Treatment methods include a combination of insight-oriented or psychodynamic work and EMDR, coupled with teaching skills for addressing issues.

Education & Experience

I earned my law degree from the John Marshall Law School in 1995 and earned a Master of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago in 2004. I began my career as an attorney in the public interest sector, representing victims of domestic violence in civil proceedings. As an attorney, I spent several years as the Clinic Legal Director at Ascend Justice (formerly known as Pro Bono Advocates), overseeing the agency’s civil court clinic for orders of protection. In 1998, I co-authored the chapter, “Obtaining Civil Orders of Protection” for the IICLE Family Law volume. Prior to starting a private practice, I worked as the Associate Director of Outreach at Neopolitan Lighthouse, where I developed and implemented a domestic violence outreach program educating community members on Chicago’s Westside. I also served as the Director of Transitional Housing and Independent Living at Teen Living Programs. In addition to operating a private practice, I also provide counseling services at SHALVA, a domestic abuse counseling center working with Jewish survivors of domestic abuse. I have operated a private practice in Chicago for the past 11 years.
