About Me
Dr. La’Toya Nicole Edwards, LCSW, BCD is a trauma therapist and the founder of Thriving Well Holistic Wellness Solutions in Virginia. She specializes in helping adults who appear high functioning on the outside but internally feel overwhelmed, burned out, anxious, or weighed down by past experiences.
Many of Dr. Edwards’ clients are professionals, caregivers, and high achievers who have spent years being “the strong one” for others. Her work focuses on helping clients safely process unresolved trauma, reduce emotional distress, and reconnect with a deeper sense of calm, clarity, and self-trust.
She uses Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy alongside body-centered approaches such as Somatic Experiencing, Brainspotting, and Internal Family Systems. These methods help clients move beyond simply talking about their experiences and support healing at the nervous system level.
Dr. Edwards is known for creating a warm, thoughtful, and culturally responsive therapeutic space where clients can explore their experiences without judgment while developing practical tools for emotional balance and long-term healing.
Education & Experience
Dr. Edwards earned her Doctor of Social Work (DSW) degree from Simmons University. She holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Sociology with a concentration in Social Welfare and African American and African Studies from Old Dominion University, along with minors in Women’s Studies and Political Science.
She has extensive experience providing trauma-focused psychotherapy in both private practice and community mental health settings. Her clinical work integrates EMDR with other evidence-based and somatic modalities including Brainspotting, Somatic Experiencing, and Internal Family Systems.
Dr. Edwards is a Board Certified Diplomate (BCD) in Clinical Social Work and an approved clinical supervisor in the state of Virginia, where she provides supervision to social workers pursuing licensure. She also offers consultation and professional development for clinicians seeking to deepen their trauma-informed and integrative practice.
