Dr. Liz Cristina Schacht, LCSW
(She, her, hers)
About Me
Liz C. Schacht, LCSW is a clinician, educator, and doctoral candidate whose work bridges
trauma-informed practice, higher education, and culturally responsive scholarship. With over a
decade of clinical experience, she specializes in supporting college students and adults
navigating anxiety, intergenerational trauma, migration-related stress, identity development, and
complex family dynamics.
Liz’s clinical approach is grounded in attachment theory, relational healing, and trauma-
informed care. She integrates EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) into her
work to help clients process unresolved trauma, reduce emotional reactivity, and restore a sense
of internal safety. Her approach recognizes how trauma is stored not only cognitively, but
somatically and relationally, and she works collaboratively to help clients move from survival
patterns toward empowered, values-driven living.
She is the founder of Munay Therapy & Wellness, a private practice rooted in cultural
affirmation, resilience, and sustainable self-care. Through her practice, Liz provides depth-
oriented therapy that blends evidence-based modalities, including EMDR, with culturally
responsive and strengths-based frameworks. Munay Therapy & Wellness reflects her
commitment to honoring lived experience while helping clients build emotional regulation skills,
strengthen relationships, and reconnect with their sense of agency and purpose.
Education & Experience
Liz is currently a Doctoral candidate at Southern Connecticut State University. She is also teaching graduate-level courses at SCSU. As a social work educator, Liz integrates anti-racist pedagogy, Universal Design for Learning,
and reflective practice into her teaching. Her doctoral research examines the systemic and
cultural factors that shape self-care, belonging, and burnout among BIPOC social work students,
reinforcing her broader mission of advancing healing and sustainability within the helping
professions.
Professional & Volunteer Affiliations
Liz volunteers at the Spanish Community of Wallingford, CT. She is also part of the Democratic Town community.
