About Me
I am a bilingual (English & Spanish) Chicana Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist raised in South Bay LA. Growing up, I moved around a lot so I grew up a couple of cities including: Pomona, Lennox, Inglewood, and Hawthorne. I am the sole owner of a private practice in the city of Norwalk, California called Therapy of the Sun: Bilingual Psychotherapy Inc. I provide both online (for those living in California) and in-person mental health services such as individual therapy, speaking engagements, workshops, and immigration evaluations. Being a first generation student myself, I have experienced my fair share self-doubt, feelings of not belonging, and toxic traits of perfectionism and overworking (all aspects of impostor syndrome). This has been very apparent in my academic and professional journeys. My passion is working with other first generation professionals of color and helping them understand the complexities of their thinking and how its influenced by not only their upbringing but their environments. My goal is to not only teach clients to build a connection to their own intuition, but to build self-worth (outside of their accomplishments) and motivate them to learn to chill. Knowing perfectionism and being a super-person first-hand, I am well aware of the complexities and influences that arise in being a first-generation young professional female of color.
Education & Experience
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at University of California, Berkeley and returned home for my Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from CSU Dominguez Hills in Carson, CA. I was born and raised in a Mexican family, thus absorbed my family’s examples and spirit of humility, hard work, and dedication to helping one another. I have always held a genuine interest in Latinx mental health and my thesis and research aligns with this. My master’s program thesis focused on Latinas experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression due to their internal struggles related to the many roles they adhere to. A lifelong student myself, I have received training in various evidenced based therapy models such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Problem Solving Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I am also currently an EMDR Consultant in Training thus provide some consultation services to those seeking EMDR Certification.
Professional & Volunteer Affiliations
I still connect with the Chicanx/Latinx Aluma Association chapter for UC Berkeley ( UCB CLAA) as well as the California Association for Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT).
