Maxime R. Renaud, Psychologist
About Me
As a clinical psychologist in private practice in Montreal and a member of the Quebec Order of Psychologists, I offer assessment and psychotherapy services to adults and adolescents.
I support people who are experiencing various psychological difficulties, including depression, anxiety, phobic disorders, attachment disorders, and simple or complex post-traumatic stress disorders.
As a certified EMDR psychotherapist , a recognized approach in the treatment of psychological trauma, I have a particular interest in psychotraumatology. I therefore regularly work with people who have experienced particularly difficult situations such as accidents, physical or sexual assaults and abuse, and situations of mistreatment or emotional neglect in childhood.
My work is based primarily on cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT) and is part of a humanistic approach, centered on listening, respecting and understanding each person's experience.
Education & Experience
I worked for several years in the field of domestic violence, where I supported both victims and perpetrators in clinical and institutional settings. This work allowed me to develop a deep understanding of relational dynamics, violence, and their psychological impacts.
Subsequently, I collaborated for a few years with Doctors Without Borders, where I supported refugees and asylum seekers who had experienced profoundly traumatic events, such as war, systemic violence, torture, or human trafficking. This clinical work with individuals who had experienced severe and repeated trauma led me to further my training in psychotraumatology and to develop a therapeutic approach sensitive to the complexity of these experiences.
Working with these patients led me to train in EMDR therapy at the Institut Français d'EMDR (IFEMDR) . I am now a certified EMDR psychotherapist and a member of EMDR Canada and EMDRIA. In my practice, I regularly integrate this approach when appropriate. It is a particularly useful tool for addressing the lingering effects of traumatic events, reducing the emotional impact of difficult experiences that continue to affect current life, and facilitating the integration of these experiences.
