Dr. Nicole Black, PhD, LPC-S, LCDC, RPT
About Me
Dr. Nicole Black, PhD, LPC-S, LCDC, RPT has over twelve years of experience in the mental health field working with individuals of all ages and backgrounds. For seven of these years, she worked in various settings including residential treatment, an emergency assessment shelter, as a crisis worker, and as a therapist for sexual abuse survivors. She has been licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor and worked in private practice for five years. Dr. Black is certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT) and is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy. She is a EMDR Consultant in training. She is also a Registered Play Therapist and has experience working with children as young as two and a half. Dr. Black's practice focuses heavily on working with child and adult survivors of abuse and trauma. While Dr. Black's practice focuses heavily on trauma, she has clinical experience treating a wide variety of mental health conditions. Dr. Black began her mental health career working in a resident treatment center and in an assessment/emergency shelter serving children and adolescents that have experience abuse and neglect as a direct care staff and supervisor. She has extensive experience working with youth that have behavioral and emotional issues. Dr. Black completed her Master in Counseling from Texas Tech University in 2012 and has been licensed since 2015. She has extensive experience in the field of crisis intervention. Dr. Black completed her doctorate in Counselor Education and Leadership from Texas Tech University in 2017. She wrote her dissertation on suicide assessment training for counselors. Dr. Black has several years of experience treating children, adolescents, and adults that have experienced single and complex traumas. She combines elements of talk therapy and evidenced based therapy to help client develop specific skills and make noticeable change in therapy. She has treated survivors of sexual and physical abuse, domestic violence, animal attacks, auto accidents, and more. She has clinical experience with treatment trauma disorders, dissociative disorder, conversion disorders, anxiety and panic disorders, depressive disorders, bipolar disorders and adjustment disorders. Her approach focuses on understanding what has happened to the individual not "what is wrong" with the individual. She has provided expert testimony in child sexual abuse cases and custody cases. She has conducted trainings on suicide assessment, abuse, and crisis across the country. Dr. Black is available for individual sessions, consultation, expert testimony, and training.
