Dr. Yolanda Angelica Cruz, PhD

EMDRIA Certified Therapist™

Online Therapy

About Me

I am a PhD-level clinician, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) serving clients in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Texas. I am passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families heal from trauma, strengthen relationships, and improve emotional well-being.

My clinical work focuses on trauma recovery, attachment wounds, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, and family-of-origin concerns. As an EMDR-trained therapist, I integrate EMDR therapy with attachment-based, systemic, and evidence-based approaches to help clients process distressing experiences, reduce symptoms, and create lasting change.

I believe that many current struggles are rooted in experiences that have shaped how we view ourselves, others, and the world around us. Through a collaborative and supportive therapeutic relationship, I help clients identify these patterns, build resilience, and develop healthier ways of coping and connecting.

I have extensive experience working with individuals, couples, and families from diverse cultural backgrounds and life experiences. My approach is warm, direct, and compassionate, creating a safe space where clients can explore difficult emotions, gain insight, and move toward their goals with greater confidence and clarity.

Whether you are seeking relief from the effects of trauma, navigating relationship difficulties, healing attachment wounds, or pursuing personal growth, I am committed to supporting you throughout your journey toward healing and resilience.

Education & Experience

I hold a PhD and am licensed as both a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). I am licensed to provide therapy services in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Texas.

My professional experience includes providing mental health services in community mental health, hospital, educational, and private practice settings. Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals, couples, and families experiencing trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, relationship distress, attachment injuries, family conflict, and major life transitions.

My clinical experience includes work with **Breakthrough Urban Ministries**, **Riveredge Hospital**, and the **Erikson Institute**, where I gained experience supporting diverse populations across the lifespan and addressing a wide range of mental health and relational concerns. These experiences strengthened my commitment to trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and systemic approaches to treatment.

I utilize EMDR therapy, attachment-based interventions, family systems therapy, and other evidence-based approaches to help clients process difficult experiences, improve relationships, and achieve lasting emotional growth. I have extensive experience working with clients from diverse cultural, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds and strive to create a therapeutic environment that is compassionate, collaborative, and empowering.

My goal is to help clients build resilience, heal from past experiences, strengthen their relationships, and create meaningful, sustainable change in their lives.
