EMDRIA and EMDRIA Members in the News!
EMDRIA Member Dr. Howard Lipke is tapped as a resource in the Psychology Today article “Pushing Past Trauma: EMDR Could Help the Brain Process Intrusive Memories.” Dr. Lipke discusses the idea of two types of memory, “reliving memory” and “historical memory” and how traumatic events can get stuck. The article states “Lipke emphasizes that EMDR [therapy] is far more than the actual eye movement or tapping—it is also the discussion before and after; it is the information you share with your therapist and the reframing they do with you. (Which is why do-it-yourself EMDR is not wise.)”
Insider interviewed EMDRIA President-Elect Marisol Erlacher, LPC, about EMDR therapy in the article “An EMDR therapist who has treated trauma for 18 years shares her 11 most important pieces of advice.” The article was medically reviewed for accuracy by one of EMDRIA’s members, Elizabeth Armstrong.
Melissa Spaulding, CMHC and EMDRIA member discusses EMDR therapy in the Above Ground Podcast “Explain Away the Pain.” “Melissa looks at our memories like sticky notes. When we think of sticky notes, they are usually so you can remember a number or name or notation. Something important at the time, but may not be necessary to hold on to long term. That’s where EMDR comes in. It helps you clear the mental sticky notes and stop holding on to memories that you no longer need.”
Michelle King, LMFT and EMDRIA member is interviewed on Close Up Radio on November 15. Michelle shares more about her experience as a therapist using EMDR therapy in this article, stating “Not only is EMDR therapy so effective, but it doesn’t have to involve pills or medication. It is a holistic, natural, and empowering way to get better. So many people experience a certain degree of trauma, whether it’s “little T” trauma or “big T” trauma. With EMDR therapy you can get to the root of your problems so you can truly find solace even in your darkest times.”
