Approved for 3 EMDRIA Credits
This module focuses on Phase 1 of EMDR therapy, emphasizing history-taking and treatment planning as the foundation of effective case conceptualization. Key decision-making points guide clinicians in identifying essential themes and relational dynamics to shape a tailored treatment approach. We will begin by addressing how to explore the client’s integrative capacities—the ability to link sensory, emotional, cognitive, and relational experiences into a coherent whole—as well as their mentalizing capacities, including reflective functioning, theory of mind, and the capacity to hold self and other in mind. Clinicians will also learn how to identify processing styles and tendencies, including affect tolerance, symbolic capacity, associative fluidity, and dissociative thresholds, which serve as essential indicators for treatment pacing and intervention planning.
