The goal of this training is to increase awareness of what neurodivergence looks like in adult folx who are at the intersection of BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ and Neurodivergent. The presentation of Autism, ADHD and AuDHD in BIPOC LGBTQIA+ therapy participants are often misunderstood or entirely missed in therapeutic settings. This training aims to equip clinicians with the knowledge, and tools to better recognize and support BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ ADHD, Autistic, and AuDHD folxs on their journey toward liberation and the healing of the mind, body, and spirit, via adaptions to the standard protocol of EMDR Therapy. The focus of the training is on understanding how these intersecting identifies are further affected by the trauma of navigating chronic systemic oppression and ableist systems. The training will address the Neurodiversity Paradigm, Neurodiversity-Affirming Model, Social Model of Disability, and Strength-Based approaches, nervous system and the brain, the impact of bias and lack of health equity in delayed diagnosis, identity shifts regardless of formal or self-diagnosis, impact on parenting and parental identity, the impact of masking, and collectively, the effects of all these factors on the mental health of the therapy participants in our therapy room
