Approved for 6 EMDRIA Credits
Early wounded attachments and chronic betrayal trauma lead to the child’s increasing need to rely on dissociation strategies in order to manage challenging memories, emotions and body sensations. This will lead to fragmented and disorganized and extreme behaviors. Prescriptive play therapy approaches to healing from attachment wounds and adversity have potency in complex trauma especially if there is ongoing adversity at the hands of caregivers. This course will explore play therapy techniques and other expressive and projective approaches using sand tray art, movement and creativity which flexibly integrate with trauma narratives and protocols by offering the child distance and titration of their most intense and painful memories. The presenters will use experiential activities and in-depth case including video examples to illustrate a way to gently explore and support the fragmented states of attachment wounded children and move them towards healing, ideally with the increasing support of caregivers
Presenters: Annie Monaco, LCSW & Ann Beckley-Forest, LCSW
