EMDR and Suicide Postvention
Suicide postvention is the actions taken after a death by suicide, which includes working with the community, individuals, and families. John Jordan, Ph.D., a leading voice in suicide postvention, emphasizes, “suicide postvention is prevention,” highlighting the importance of supporting those affected by suicide loss, whether it is minutes, hours, or years after the event (Jordan, 2015). This call to action inspires my EMDR work with suicide loss survivors to simultaneously address their increased risk, complex pain, and traumatic grief.
