The role of police officer in today’s society is complicated. However even those individuals who express serious concerns about the actions of police in today’s society are still generally grateful for the fundamental protection that police officers provide for each of the nation’s communities. Police officers have some of the same job responsibilities in common with other first responders such as fire fighters and emergency medical personnel, and yet police officers also face additional, entirely different types of traumatic stress.
