EMDRIA™ FAQs

Home / About EMDRIA™ / EMDRIA™ FAQs
Does EMDRIA™ provide basic training in EMDR? Expand

EMDRIA™ sets the standards and grants approval to individuals or organizations to provide EMDR Training. They are called EMDR Training Providers.

EMDRIA™ does not provide EMDR Training directly to clinicians.

Are "EMDRIA Membership" and "EMDR Certification" the same thing? Expand

No, "EMDRIA Membership" and "EMDR Certification" are separate processes. To be an EMDRIA member, you must meet the requirements for membership and pay annual membership dues.

To be certified in EMDR, you must meet separate requirements, submit an application, pay an application fee, and be approved by EMDRIA as an EMDR Certified Therapist. View Certification FAQs. EMDRIA membership is not required for EMDR Certification.

For further information on the differences between EMDRIA Membership and EMDR Certification, visit Membership vs Certification.

Does completion of the EMDR Training mean that you Certified in EMDR? Expand

No. EMDR Certification in EMDR is an additional credential beyond EMDR Training.

I'm a member of EMDRIA, but don't see my listing on the website. Why is that? Expand

Only Full Members of EMDRIA receive the member benefit of being listed in our Find an EMDR Therapist directory. Associate, Student, and Retired members are not eligible for the directory.

Additionally, you must have the "Show in Directory" box checked on your member record and your contact information must be set appropriately. View Directory Profile Information for further instructions on how to complete your directory information.

If you have an active Full Membership and you are not listed, please contact us so that we may assist you.

Are EMDR International Association, EMDR Institute and Trauma Recovery/EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Programs all affiliated? Expand

No. EMDR International Association (EMDRIA)™ is a non-profit 501(C)6 membership and credentialing association that sets the standards and requirements for EMDR Training and continuing education in EMDR. The EMDR Institute is a for-profit training organization, one of EMDRIA's Approved Training Providers, and offers several EMDRIA Approved Credit Programs (continuing education in EMDR). Trauma Recovery/EMDR HAP is a non-profit 501(C)3 organization. Trauma Recovery/EMDR HAP is also an EMDRIA Approved Training Provider and offers several EMDRIA Approved Credit Programs. The businesses of these three organizations are entirely separate and not affiliated.

Does EMDRIA maintain a general EMDR Listserv? Expand

No. EMDRIA provides members access to a full Online Community. Once you join a Special Interest Group (SIG), you can post clinical questions, and other members can respond with useful information.  EMDRIA is also active on social media.

What is the difference between the Find an EMDR Therapist Directory™ and the community Member Directory? Expand

The Find an EMDR Therapist Directory is a public directory on the EMDRIA website that Full Members can opt-in to have a profile listing included.

The Member Directory is only accessible to members and is located in the Online Community.  All active members are included in the directory.  You can choose to opt out or hide certain information by going to your online community Profile>My Account>Privacy Settings.

Must members obtain EMDRIA Credits (Continuing Education in EMDR) to maintain their membership in EMDRIA? Expand

No. Members are only required to pay their annual dues (at their highest level of eligibility) and subscribe to EMDRIA's Code of Conduct to maintain their membership.

EMDRIA does require EMDRIA Credits applying for or maintaining the EMDR Certified Therapist and EMDR Consultant credentials.

Can I use any of EMDRIA's logos or content from its website? Expand

Our website, EMDRIA logo, Annual Conference logo, Go With That magazine, and Journal of EMDR Practice & Research logos are copyrighted by the association. Use of any of our content or logos is prohibited. Members may share links to our website with their clients. Members may post our “Intro to EMDR” video on their websites, and there are directions there on how to embed it into their site. We do have digital brochures that we can provide members access to so that you can share them with your clients. Members may also link to our website.
