An EMDR-specific protocol, incorporating psychoeducation and the client-centered approach for Asian female survivors of sexual assault
A program is presented that adapts the standard EMDR protocol to better serve Asian female survivors of sexual assault, aiming to reduce PTSD symptoms.
Thesis/Dissertation Abstract
“The program development seeks to alter the standard protocol of EMDR by specifically incorporating psychoeducation into the beginning phase and the client-centered approach into the installation phase of the standard protocol to lower PTSD symptoms for the Asian female survivor of sexual assault. By focusing on significant gender issues within Eastern and collectivistic culture and expectations of women to be submissive members of society, the program seeks to educate the Asian woman on negative self-reflection and its impact on family, community, and society. The client-centered approach during the installation phase is used to buffer tendencies toward abreactions and offer an outlet to a deeper exploration of the self in a gentle and supportive way.”
