“Ad de Jongh, PhD, is a dentist and clinical psychologist, appointed in 2003 as a professor of anxiety and behavior disorders at the Academic Centre for Dentistry in Amsterdam. He directs the postgraduate program on dental fear treatment and holds honorary professorships at various U.K. universities. Dr De Jongh earned his dental degree and a master’s degree in clinical psychology from the University of Amsterdam, where he also completed his PhD on dental anxiety in 1995. He specializes in trauma-related anxiety disorders, notably dental phobia and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). He pioneered the introduction of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) to the Netherlands and has since become an influential figure in this field, training over 8,000 professionals. He cofounded the Psychotrauma Expertise Centre, which offers intensive treatment for complex PTSD, achieving significant outcomes for its patients. Dr De Jongh has authored or co-authored six books and over 400 peer-reviewed articles, contributing extensively to clinical psychology and dentistry. He supervises numerous PhD students and is actively involved in research on the efficacy of evidence-based treatments across diverse populations.”
